Stretching and Balancing...As we age there are many complaints. One of the big ones is diminishing balance and flexibility. I think those deficits far eclipse any loss of strength. It is never too late or too early to add some stretching, whether you exercise regularly or not. You don't have to be a Pilates master to do this. We all know basic stretches (think high school gym class if you need to go back that far). So get down on the floor and devote 5 - 15 minutes a day to stretching. As a rule, don't bounce or try to go past the point when it starts to hurt. Just relax, focus, and feel the stress wash away while you improve your current blood flow and quietly decrease your risk for future falls. Plus who knows, it might help you bust a new move on the dance floor some day.
